“I have a feeling today’s the day,” Rolin Lea’Vitt thought to himself as he scanned over the crowd of diverse beings hustling about.
This was Lea’Vitt’s fourth day of staking out the Nona’He Mountain Lobby. The entrance area was an overwhelming wall of an extraordinary variety of hundreds of doors, each opening to its own world, lined in rows stretching up to dizzying heights. Stairways connected them all, leading down to the spacious, yet comforting lobby floor which was dominated by a mural of precious stones depicting a black and a red dragon resting on the top of a snow-covered mountain.
Lea’Vitt wasn’t about to try exploring any further into The Hotel, being aware of the place’s true magnitude and just how easy it is to become turned around. He wanted to be close to an exit. Sooner or later at least one of the dragons was going to show up here, he just needed to be patient.
He found himself watching a family of tall, black-skinned humanoids, when a hole appeared in one of the walls. A humanoid wearing a stylish, emerald colored, sleeveless dress and a wig of wild red hair, emerged from it. There was a smile on his face as he watched the hustle of the crowd.
“That must be the one called Georgie. He doesn’t look like a threat. This’ll be a quick job.”
Lea’Vitt headed towards the check-in station, which was clearly Georgie’s destination. The station was manned by a silver-skinned being with a red glow about it, who seemed to be trying to calm down a four-armed being.
“Hello. I'm Georgie, one of the owners,” the dragon in human form announced with a calming smile and a cheery voice, in the friendliest tone Lea’Vitt had ever heard. “Now what seems to be the problem here?”
The customer started going on an angry rant about there not being any place serving living creatures as food in The Hotel.
“Please understand that due to the enchantments of The Hotel, nothing can die here,” Georgei explained serenely. “It would be torture to both you and your food if you ate it while it was still alive. We can get you a list of worlds to visit that serve a menu of still living delicacies.”
As the customer began complaining about being forced to deal with such an inconvenience, Georgie held up one hand to silence them, his face exhibiting a more serious expression.
“The enchantment has been in place for millennia and we are not going to…”
“This is discrimination and I will not…”
The customer's interruption was interrupted by the dark, well-dressed man with an aura of authority about him, standing taller than Georgie, who had walked up next to his partner.
“Such baseless accusations will not serve you,” he stated in a grim, direct tone. The intensity of his stare made it evident to the guest there would be no room for debate or argument. “You have been told our policy and our manner of accommodation for your needs. That will be the end of it.”
The customer nodded and backed away, clearly understanding the message.
“Oh Armand, I could have handled that myself,” Georgie said as he turned to face his life partner and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
“I know, but we are both needed for the meeting you scheduled with the Kerkekazians about their application for a tournament level wind tunnel. We’ve no time for this nonsense.”
“Both dragons, what luck,” Lea’Vitt thought. He wasted no time placing himself in front of the hole in the wall.
“Can we help you?” Armand’s annoyance dominated his voice.
Lea’Vitt pulled out a pistol, directing it toward the dragons.
“I’m here to bring you two to justice,” Lea’Vitt announced in a confident voice. “Now come along and no one needs to get hurt.”
“Are you a bounty hunter?” Georgie’s yellow eyes widened with a sense of excitement. “Who has a bounty on us this time?”
“Arewtate…” Lea’Vitt answered, not able to hide his puzzlement.
Armand shook his head. “Is that one still active? I thought they had finally ended that foolishness.”
“You know how stubborn those Beta’ales can be,” Georgie reminded.
“I don’t think you understand the situation,” Lae’Vitt raised his pistol. “You have no security here. I’m armed and completely willing to follow through with my threat.”
Georgie and Armand observed their would-be assailant with amusement.
“It really would be best for you to return to your homeworld and forget this moment of poor judgement,” Armand offered.
“I’d listen to him,” Georgie suggested. “There is no possibility of this ending well for you if you insist on being so foolish.”
“I gave you a chance.” Lea’Vitt pointed the pistol at Georgie and began the motion of pulling the trigger.
Lea’Vitt found himself overwhelmed with paralyzing pain. He dropped his pistol as he fell to the floor, curling up into a ball as the world became a blur around him.
“We don’t allow violence in our hotel,” Georgie explained as he cast a paralysis spell. “It’s one of our stronger enchantments."
Armand turned back towards the check-in station. “I’ll send a messenger to Lou’y to take care of his banishment. Then we really do need to get to that meeting.”
